Welcome to the third 101 with No1. If you admire someone and wanna take the step from becoming a fan to their friend you've come to the right place. (Okay maybe friend is a stretch but click bait and that 🤙)
There are many celebrities I am a big fan of and who inspire me because of their work, their passion and their talent. First things first I think as a fan the most important thing is to respect your fav. And there is a line which gets crossed a lot. It's easy to look weird and creepy as a fan, and although you know so much about the person it's easy to forget that they literally know nothing about you, you are a stranger. Our favs owe us nothing. We have chosen to be a fan. They give us their work/art and anything else is a bonus. I have never waited outside one of my favs house or followed them or anything like that. The only time I see my favs is at events organised by them, so concerts, meet and greets ect.
Okay so the first step is getting on social media. For me this is one of the main reasons I love social media. It gives you a chance to interact with people you would never get a chance to otherwise. I've done almost 50K tweets, I've made the mistakes on twitter so you don't have to. I've done it and I think every fan on twitter has too, when their fav tweets ANYTHING they reply "OMGGG I LOVE YOU, YOU ARE THE BEST PERSON IN THE WORLD" ect ect, firstly I think it's hard to reply to that, what would they say, "thank you" it seems awkward. I know personally I can get very awkward when people compliment me loads and I think most people do, never mind if a stranger is the one complimenting you. If they tweet something about a topic reply something relevant to that topic and they are so so much more likely to reply. They've clearly tweeted about this topic because they care about it. Try tweet something unique and original, it's hard but can be really worth it. Get their attention for a good reason. And tweet them when they are online. A No1 Tip is keep an eye on their likes. A soon as a celebrity tweets loads of people tweet them so their mentions will be full. So if you're know their online because you've seen they've recently liked something then that is the perfect time to tweet them because not many people will be in their mentions so they are more likely to see your tweet! Also see what kinda things they reply to, do they reply to funny tweets? Pictures? It's like having a target audience hahah expect it's just the one person.
If twitter for you isn't possible for whatever reason, that doesn't mean games over, it's just a really good (and free) place to start to get you on their radar.
Although social media is great, you also need to see them in person which will make you memorable. Get to the front row of their concert or other event. Attend as many as you can. Maybe write them a letter or a random gift that means something to them/you. Try and stand out. It is hard buying celebrities gifts because these are the people that get freebies from Chanel. So maybe make something, you know the person, you know if they would appreciate something hand made or not. The more events you attend, the more tweets you send, the more your fav will remember you.
Lily Allen and Kate Nash got to know me through Twitter and have both tweeted me many times and both follow me on twitter. After attending many of their concerts and events it wasn't long before they both knew me by name. Which is quite a crazy feeling. I have ended up attending Lily's birthday party and running Kate's depop account (click here to buy her stunning vintage collection) I am very lucky and grateful to have had these opportunities and it means an unbelievable amount to me knowing that two people who have inspired me so much and helped me through their music and passion and shaped who I am today know I exist. I remember having a chat with Lily and her boyfriend at the party last year about her cooking her kids a roast dinner earlier that day and thinking "how the fuck did I get here" When I was sat in a coffee shop in Kate's home town and she was telling me about how she met her boyfriend and showing me exclusive videos on her laptop and again thinking "is this actually my life". They have both been so kind to me and I still don't really believe these things have happened. I guess they happened through my dedication and passion. And they both see that and appreciate it.
Side note: Really good thread from twitter from a Rihanna fan (yes the Monaco woman, if u know, u know) with all the times Rihanna has noticed her. Imagine Rihanna knowing who you are!!! If you're interested in her thread click here
If you're trying to hang out with Beyoncé in her house, you've come to the wrong place, if you've come to use a celebs fame and you don't really care about them, then you've come to the wrong place. If you truly appreciate and admire a celebrity for their work and what they stand for and they actually run their own social media and look at their feeds and reply to messages. Give it a shot. Buy their art, attend their events. It all takes time. But slowly but surely you'll be on their radar. Have patience.

There are many other less well know artists and activists that I love who also have tweeted me or know who I am. Which is amazing. Let someone know you appreciate their work, the less famous they are the more they will appreciate it. Don't be afraid or embarrassed to tell someone that you admire their work. Everyone likes being told that. Also don't feel sad if they don't reply, haven't we all accidentally not replied to a message, nevermind when you get floods of messages daily. Don't expect them to reply. But you may as well send the message, you ain't got nothing to lose.
This all should come natural to you. You're literally just being a fan. If it doesn't then stop. You're intentions are wrong. Be true and good things will come.
In conclusion, show support and love to your fav. Attend their events, buy their art, basically just be a fan, a No1Fan;) and maybe they might just slide into your DMs.
Join me next Wednesday for the final 101 with No1 of the series. But before then, on Sunday I have another No1GuestBlogger taking over with a new post. And for now remember, be number one, not no one xo
