Frantic but Fabulous February

We survived Valentine’s Day, Lady Gaga’s Superbowl performance AND Beyoncé’s pregnancy announcement, who knows how we did it?? I dunno about you, but February was super busy for me! I’ve been here, there, and everywhere - Brighton, London, Farnham and Dorchester to be precise (and that was in all within just over 24 hours). This post I’ll be talking about Kate Nash’s tour, my new relationship, and why I think relationships aren’t that great. Plus all my monthly features are back and the amazing Cora is this month’s No1GuestBlogger! Let's do this!

Kate Nash Live

One of the best moments of this month, if not the best moment, was seeing Kate Nash live twice!! The first time I saw her was in Brighton with one of my best friends, Dan. It was my first time visiting Brighton and I have to thank Dan for such a brilliant, fun packed weekend. We had too many laughs. On the Saturday we were first in the queue. The venue is by the seafront so it was very breezy, but being front row in such a intimate venue was definitely worth facing the cold. You know when Beyoncé is singing Love On Top and each time she sings the chorus you just don't think she can give ANYMORE but then SHE DOES!! That was Kate live, like literally the energy and vibes she was giving was insane. If you ever get the chance to see her live please do it!!

Then two days later I saw her again in London with my friend Olivia who I had seen for over a year!! It was super nice to catch up and we made some friends at the gig and we just had such an amazing and fun night, obvs Kate slayed again. She also played some brand new stuff and is releasing an EP called Agenda in April which is super exciting!

Bea aka Bitchtrice

If you follow my Instagram (@No1LilyAllenFan) then you would have seen I announced that I now have a girlfriend, Bitchtrice or Bea for short (@ItsBitchtriceBitch). We have been together for a little while now but we felt like it was the right time to announce it publicly. Follow her insta for more fabulous pictures. I'm such a lucky guy. The best thing about Bea is it feels like I’m in a relationship with myself, we are just so similar.

Make sure to read this months unpopular opinion below where I shade relationships, it's all fun and games here at No1Blog.

February No1GuestBlogger – Cora

Hey, I'm Cora, a 15 year old bitter SJW and diehard Lily Allen fan from London. I like pretty much any genre of music, I sing and I'm teaching myself piano and guitar, and I'm also really into politics but I'm trying not to get too sucked in given the state of things recently.

No1 Food: I'm such a basic bitch but probably pizza, I'm also one of those people who likes pineapple on pizza but I will not apologise for it let me live my life please.

Favourite Quote: ‘People are always more interesting when they think no one is looking’ bonus points if you’re also trash and know where this is from.

What annoys you the most: The daily mail and other newspapers who use the term ‘news’ quite flippantly.

What would your 15 minutes of fame be for: Maybe like just getting into a really heated argument with some famous person on Twitter or something because I never know when to stop..

No1 Song of All Time: Maybe hurts like heaven by Coldplay, I know there's a lot of Coldplay hate out there but mylo xyloto was the first album I really got into, so it has loads of good memories attached to it. But to be honest I'm so indecisive when it comes to music, so stone roses and pink floyd get a shoutout too.

No1 Song at the moment/this month/right now: either digital bath by deftones or dem neva warn ya by stefflon don, but Stormzy’s album comes out on Friday I think so that could change pretty quickly.

No1 moment of this month;

So because February is LGBT+ history month in the UK, our ‘gay squad’ (don’t come for me how else am I gonna describe it) decided to go all out. We sold these ribbons to raise money for the Albert Kennedy trust, a charity that helps LGBT+ homeless youth, and also got people to bake rainbow cakes to sell. You're probably reading this, thinking this can't have been the best thing that happened in February. But to be honest although it was pretty insignificant to the rest of the school, or the rest of the world, it kind of signalled a shift in perspective in the way the community are represented at our school. The amount of straight people walking around with ribbons, or asking us where they could donate, and the fact that one of my friends even got to do an assembly on LGBT+ history, is something that seemed inconceivable to us even a year ago, so it really motivated me to start getting involved in more activism, because I’ve now seen the positive effects of it.

Something I HAVE to talk about;

Minority representation is important. A few weeks ago I did my English coursework on this same topic because I'm extra, but since then I have a few more issues to get off my chest. I don't know if anyone reading this has seen Riverdale but the beef is that Betty and Veronica kissed in the trailer and now the actresses are insisting they are just ‘gal pals’. I know this seems like such a minor issue but the amount of shows this identical situation has happened on is just ridiculous to me. They literally try to draw in a queer fanbase and then make it straight, it’s so tiring to me ? Then we have the whole Beyoncé-Adele issue, and don't get me wrong I love Adele, but Beyoncé made a fucking movie, and as Adele herself said, what does she have to do to win it?? Obviously the reason why this is such a big problem to me is that bad representation= ignorance. People with less knowledge about this sort of thing take racism etc at face value and internalise it, just look at the daily mail comments section.

Thanks for reading, back over to Harry!

No1 Unpopular Opinion of the Month

Relationships, relationsinks. I think there is too much pressure on us to be in relationships and that if we aren’t in one then we can’t be happy and we must be sad, lonely and wanting one. I’ve never had a relationship and I’ve had the happiest, funniest life. (that sounds like I’m dying hahaha) I think we all worry and stress too much about relationships, including people in and not in them. Also society tells us we have to get married (and have kids ect) but we don’t. People always say to me “you’ll find someone” but maybe I won’t and that’s okay. Like, NEXT. There’s so much more to life than relationships and far more important things. Not being in a relationship doesn’t define you. In my opinion friendships are far more beautiful and powerful than relationships. I’m not saying I won’t ever get in a relationship but I don’t need one and I am so happy being single right now. Yes there has been occasional moments in my life when I’ve really wanted one. Relationships are overrated in my opinion and I think they can be so damaging and it’s all so romanticised which is gross.

Loving yourself is far more important, like RuPaul said, if you can’t love yourself, how in the hell can you love someone else? Can I get an amen? (If you didn’t say amen ((preferably out loud but I’ll accept in your head)) then we are not friends) – Yes I just bracket-d a bracket.

Disclaimer: This ain’t any shade on my friends that are in relationships, I love how happy it makes you but you are beautiful with or without it/them and as long as you know that, that’s all that matters.

I think obsessing over relationships and depending on them isn’t healthy or good. So if you’re single hopefully this will make you feel better about being single because being single is beautiful.

No1GuestBlogger Cora's verdict on my opinion;

I genuinely really agree with this, relationships are so overrated and honestly I wish people wouldn't get so obsessed with wanting a partner. It's come to the point where people I know only really go to parties to get with people and it makes me really sad that that's all some people talk about. I don't want to paint people who are looking for a relationship as vapid or boring, because it's essentially the fault of society for filling our heads with unrealistic expectations. The misconception of ‘the one’ which suggests to people that they can only find love once is another way to make people feel insecure and unhappy about their lives, it’s come to the point where pretty much every movie contains a flawless (usually straight) relationship because it's seen as the epitome of happiness. If you need a person to make you feel happy within yourself it's probably a bit of an issue, but not one you are at fault for.

What did you guys have to say? Each month I do a twitter poll to see what you guys think, I hashtag with #NO1UO. Last month 93% of you disagreed with me, but this month only 82% of you did! I was a bit cheeky with the way I worded this question ;p

No1 Lesson of the Month

Too much of anything is bad. But especially the internet. The internet is the best and worst thing that ever happened to me and I think all of us. I love the internet because it’s made me woke and taught me so much. Its made me so happy and I’ve been able to be noticed by my idols and meet some truly amazing people on it. It’s always there for us, whether its help with homework, we need to listen to THAT song, something else bc all the best things come in threes. But the internet is problematic in many ways which I could talk about for hours but I’m gonna focus on the amount of time I WASTE on it, literally waste. Early this month on a Sunday I decided to go the day WITHOUT social media, you all know how much I love that shit. Unfortunately I felt it impossible to go without the whole internet and my phone for the day because I needed the internet for coursework and the thought of not having my phone made me feel that Lily would call me asking me to be in a music video... Sure she didn't BUT she could have!! I always complain there isn't enough hours in the day but this day there was! I got so much more done, normally I just automatically pick up my phone and check Twitter and all the other forms of social media. I have a constant need to Snapchat EVERYTHING I do. I guess this month's lesson is that too much of anything is bad so if you have something you do too much which isn't good for you, try to cut it down or do one day a week without it, good luck!

THE END

Thank you so much for reading! You are the best, some may even say No1;) Just two quick final things, firstly last months No1GuestBlogger Kira has started her very own blog which I just love, it is totally the grooviest blog run by the most rad person ever tbh. check it out here; https://notrightnowthanks.wordpress.com/
