IMPRESSED & DISTRESSED: 2016

Let's do this

This blog is so overdue, just like new music from Lily, which she promised we would get at the beginning of the year, cute. Anyway moving my bitter ass on, I thought I was feeling rather Christmassy but then I realised it’s high key December, like it’s the 12th!! So considering how close Christmas actually is I’m not that Christmassy, but I’m still feeling it to a degree. We just need to lip sync to ‘All I Want For Christmas’ 826 more times and we’ll be there. If you’re still not feeling it I found you a WikiHow because they solve everything. So this blog is a catch up of the last few weeks then a review of 2016, get comfy. Now let’s do this hunties..

PROTEST

So on the 19th of November I went up to LDN with Kira and my uni to protest for student rights because our beautiful government want to up tuition fees, make life harder for international students and decrease disable students benefits, how sweet. It was my first protest and I really enjoyed it, I feel protests are so important and now I live so much closer to London I am really hoping to attend many more! Over 15,000 students attended the march which is the biggest student march since 2010 apparently so it was really cool to be part of that and hopefully now the government don’t fuck us over and up tuition fees, we’ll see. One of my signs said “I haven’t had juice since I was at home. I really love juice, especially apple and raspberry juice.” Which several people asked to take a picture of and got quite a few laughs but one girl topped it all by tapping me on the shoulder and saying “I have apple and raspberry juice in my bag, do you want it?” I was SHOOK, because girl do I love apple and raspberry juice, so this angel gave me a whole carton of juice, babe, SHOUTOUT TO YOU LONG LOST GIVER OF JUICE STRANGER. This protest was a couple of days after Trump had been elected. So we were also lowkey protesting against him which is

always fun. This also lead to some unhappy trump supporters coming at us. The first was a white straight man, ground-breaking I know, he was with his wife and three kids. One of my signs said ‘No To Racism. No To Trump.’ So this man came up to my group and said “So how is Trump racist then?” which was a fun ‘discussion’ which ended with him walking away laughing?? After the protest we went to Costa and obviously still had our signs and a black man in the queue started talking to us and said that at first he was upset when he first found out Trump had been elected but two days after he got over it because it doesn’t matter anymore and wont effect us?????? So sad. Then finally on the walk back to the mini bus a white man shouted at us “Trump is alright”. Still in highkey denial that people support him. But like I said in my previous post, we gotta stay positive.

QUICK FIRING RANDOM TEA AT YA

Other news. The big brother auditions are open!! And it’s the first time I’ve been 18 so I can finally apply!! Except for the first time ever, they are looking for pairs, like BYE, I'm a star by myself. But I’m still a thirsty bitch and need to go on that show lol so I’m looking for someone to audition with me, so hit me upppppp. Also Nicki Minaj has a new app!! Which I’m addicted too, you get to become a rapper and be best friends with Nicki its so fun. Really random but since coming to uni and doing my own washing I feel like all of my clothes have shrunk by like 10% or I’ve got bigger by 10%?? But seriously every time I wash my clothes they come out slightly smaller each time? My friend Cameron is a super talented singer and he's uploaded a Marina and the Diamonds cover which is amazing and you should check it out here. I also met Michelle Visage and Bianca Del Rio in London with Dan!! It was such a good night and was so surreal and amazing to meet two hilarious ladies. They both were so glam and lovely and I'm still in highkey denial. Finally for this random section, I think I know why 2016 has been a mess. We all should have known after this moment in January.

NEXT

You will all be happy to know that I’m coming up with a better structure for my blogs in 2017, which I’m excited about, but I won’t spill all the details now but one thing I want to add is having a guest blogger every month to give opinions on topics I will be bringing up and just talking about themselves in general. So if you’re interest, hit me upppp. If you’re reading this we are probably friends on Facebook or mutuals on Twitter but if not my social media links are to the left, to the left, everything you own in the box to the left. So send me a message and I’ll be in touch about getting you as a guest blogger! Also I love giving shoutouts so if you’re an artist of any sort, you have a blog, youtube channel or literally whatever, we are all thirsty creative bitches that want our art appreciated so let me know and I’ll feature you in my posts.

MUSIC

Despite no new music from Lily there has been a lot of good music this year. Before I talk you through my three favourite albums of the year, I gotta thank Kate Nash, P!nk, Nicki, Little Mix, Adele, M.I.A also Ariana, Foxes, Demi and Sia. And many other artists for blessing this crazy year with your amazing music. I’m excited for what 2017 will bring music wise!! Now..

My Fav Three Albums Of The Year

No3 ANTI by Rihanna

Fav Song: Love On The Brain

RiRi!!! I really love this album despite ‘Work’ being in the running for the most overplayed song of the year. I fell in love with this album after hearing ‘Close To You’ which I listened to on repeat for like a month for no apparent reason. It’s just so different from Rihanna’s other stuff and it’s such a sweet and beautiful song, defo one of my favs from the album. I also love and bop to ‘Consideration’, ‘Kiss It Better’, ‘Desperado’ and ‘Needed Me’. All so different but equally make this album the masterpiece it is. I’m gonna end with my fav track, ‘Love On The Brain’, which is just a tune in every way. I love the lyrics and the way she sings it, there’s just something so real there, like yaaaas preach it mum. Overall, love this album.

No2 JOANNE by Lady Gaga

Fav Song: Grigio Girls

Gaga is finally back and I couldn’t be happier!!! This album is so different from her other stuff which I think is SUCH a good thing. The album overall I love and I can’t wait to see it live. I’m gonna start with ‘Perfect Illusion’ which had a very mixed response from critics, fans and everyone really. I personally LOVE it and it is actually one of my favourite songs on the album, I love the video and her look in it and the lyrics and the vocals, honestly just love it. Although I love the whole album I’m not sure any song on it would have made a better single. I love the personal tracks with such real lyrics, (so much love on this album) like ‘Joanne’, ‘Million Reasons’, ‘Sinner’s Prayer’ and ‘Angel Down’ but I HAVE to talk about ‘Grigio Girls’ which like I said above is my FAV song on the album. It makes me feel so good and motivated and filled with love and passion, idek I need to stfu but it’s just such a good song. Also love the bops like ‘A-YO’ and ‘John Wayne’ both songs I love to get down too. Finally ‘Hey Girl’ featuring Florence just has such a good message, reminding girls, despite what the media, society and the whole world is saying, girls can love and support each other. Pitting women against each other is getting so tiring thanks Daily Mail. So I am SO here for any girl love power, so thanks Gaga for that track, love it, like I love the whole album. Good job mum.

No1 LEMONADE by Beyoncé

Fav Song: Hold Up

THE BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR!! Bey did it again!! This album makes me feel so powerful and strong!! It was a close call between Joanne and Lemonade but this album edged it! I can’t believe this album has been in my life for less than a year. Time flies when you’re listening to good music. Gonna start with this trio, ‘Pray You Catch Me’, ‘Love Drought’ and ‘Sandcastles’. All three make me wanna cry and scream with something, I dunno what but something real. I just can’t imagine this album without any of those three songs and are all perfect in their own ways. Next I have to talk about ‘Formation’, iconic. Love the message behind it, so powerful and on top of that it’s a great song!! I think this song makes the album. Now, ‘Don’t Hurt Yourself’ which I just love to scream to. If you’re ever mad please listen to this song hahaha, it’s soooo good though. Bey is just reminding us to make sure we don’t let anyone fuck us over. Also ‘Sorry’ was my favourite song on the album at first, although it isn’t now, I still love it so much and if I ever wanna feel badass I know where to go. Love that song. Before I move onto my fav song I gotta quickly mention ‘6 Inch’ because I love how its lowkey melo but also so bop-y, and the lyrics are fab. Finally my favourite song is ‘Hold Up’ because it reminds us all that we are worth more and putting Jay-Z in check because no one gonna walk over Bey. Sometimes you gonna wake bitches up and let them know that you are amazing and you give your damn all. I will forever love this song. I also went to the Formation Tour this year in London which was insane. Seeing Queen B live was an incredible and religious experience that everyone needs to witness at least once in their lives. The vocals, the looks, the choreography, literally everyone was on point. Thank Beyoncé for this album, it will forever be in my heart.

FINALLY

Thank you so much to everyone who made my 2016 fabulous, it was such a busy year and I’m always grateful for busyness, it keeps you alive, although it tires you the fuck out. I do feel like I’ve had 60% of the sleep I’ve needed. Maybe I’ll hibernate for 2017?? We’ll see how it goes. Despite the universe trying to drag us down this year I have actually had a very good year, starting it with all my babes at college and doing our final show which was just the best, turning 18, learning to drive, going to pride, and having the busiest summer seeing all my beautiful friends new and old, seeing my American and Canadian family in Canada then starting uni in the final quarter of the year and making some really amazing friends and being a grown up living by myself.

If you celebrate Christmas then have the best one ever, if not (and if you do) just surround yourself with people you love and give yourself a break and have a happy new year.

Do You, Show Love, Stay True and Be No1. Till next time xo
